PICS3D (3D Photonic Integrated Circuit Simulator) is the most advanced 3D simulator used for laser diodes and related active photonic devices. Its main goal is to provide 3D simulation for edge and surface emitting laser diodes. It also extends to models that include other components integrated or related to laser emitters. PICS3D is capable of performing simulations in time, frequency spectrum, and three spatial dimensions. It provides us with a complete view of the running laser diode: longer computation time. With the improvement of computing power in the new generation of computer hardware and updated operating systems, the problem of computation time is decreasing
